World of Tavily: Where We Started, Where We’re Going
Since first bringing web access to agents, Tavily has come a long way. Take a look at where we started, what the World of Tavily means for you and your agents, and how production agents are powered across the globe.
What a year it’s been for Tavily.
Tavily started with a simple problem: AI couldn’t access what was happening on the web right then. Ask a model about last night’s game and you’d get “Sorry, my knowledge cutoff is 2021.” And the web it did pull from was full of misinformation and stale data that was way too easy to believe. If the information going into an agent is bad, what comes out is bad too.
So Tavily set out to fix it by connecting agents to the live web and giving them real-time information they can trust.
Developers got it right away. They plugged Tavily into their agents, shipped, and brought their teams along. Then the enterprises followed. The space got hot, competitors popped up every week, and the team kept moving at full speed.
Growing up fast
This past year, Tavily went from a hot API to a category leader. Along the way, we rebuilt almost everything about how we show up: a new website, a full rebrand, sharper messaging, sales enablement, blogs, events, all while defining agentic search in real time.
In February, Tavily joined Nebius. That was a turning point. Pairing the web access layer for agents with Nebius’s AI cloud means more power for less compute, and room to grow with customers at every stage. Since then, we’ve reached 3M developers using tavily, added enterprise customers, launched new benchmarks, and more.
From API to agentic search leader
Tavily started as an API connecting your agents to the web. Today, 3M+ developers build with us and we handle 100M+ requests every month. Mastercard and BMO use Tavily for AML research. Bell Cyber got 6x faster response times. Rox turned account research that used to take weeks into something that takes seconds. NVIDIA uses Tavily to train its own research agents. From a solo builder testing their first agent to a Fortune 500 team running at scale, we can meet customers at every point of the journey.
Welcome to the World of Tavily
When we were planning the World of Tavily event in San Francisco, we kept coming back to one idea: there’s a whole world out there, and now it’s being built for agents, too.
For about thirty years, the internet was designed around human attention. You search, you click, you open way too many tabs, you read. It was built for eyes, ads, and time on page. (My sister and I are both very fluent in this version of the web.)
Now there’s a second layer. People ask agents, and agents go out to the web for them. They query, verify, and synthesize. They don’t browse, they get the job done. An agent planning a trip, researching a competitor, or vetting a vendor doesn’t get distracted by a homepage or a pop-up. It looks for sources, structure, and context it can trust. Agents already search at a scale we’ve never seen, and that’s only going up.
That’s the world we wanted to bring to life. It’s a world for you, the builder, and for your agents.
- For you: It’s a place to build without fighting the web. You get one API to search, extract, crawl, and research. You don’t need to write custom scrapers or parse messy pages, and you don’t have to cross your fingers that the data is fresh. Start for free with 1,000 credits a month, and if you’re an early-stage startup, the Startup Program gives you 100K credits plus our forward-deployed engineers in your corner.
- For your agents: It’s a window to the web. Not the whole chaotic thing at once, just what they need: relevant, real-time knowledge that’s structured so they can reason over it. That’s how agents stay grounded instead of guessing.
- For everyone building together: It’s partners like Nebius and LangChain, customers like Rox, OpenHands, and Groq, and a community of builders using Tavily for everything from candidate research and market analysis to legal monitoring, threat detection, and yes, planning a weekend in Berlin.
So, when we said everyone gets to join the world, we meant it. Agents, builders, partners, customers: all in one room, all figuring out what this new web looks like together.
Seeing it all come to life
On the Friday of SF Tech Week, we opened the doors to that world at Capitol Art. Here’s what the day looked like:
- Lee Tzanani, our Head of Strategy and a member of Tavily’s founding team, kicked things off with the origin story. Back in 2023, if you asked a model “What was the score of the game last night?”, it would tell you its knowledge cutoff was 2021. So, we connected it to the web. Lee walked us through the next three years, from a developer tool to a cloud primitive, and from 0 to 100+ employees.
- Wei-Chen Wang, VP of Inference at Nebius, asked “What happens when compute meets context?” and showed how Nebius Token Factory and Tavily work together. My favorite line: Token Factory reasons. Tavily knows.
- Neil Dahlke from LangChain joined Lee for a fireside chat on building agents in the real world.
- Tavily <3s Our Customers. I got to take the stage myself to share the customer story, with a customer video featuring teams like Rox, OpenHands, and Groq that have been with us since day one.
- Bat Hoter Ishay launched the Tavily Startup Program: 100K free credits, direct access to our forward-deployed engineers, and intros across the Tavily x Nebius network.
- Waqas Makhdum (Nebius) and Harsh Kataria (Tavily) did a live demo, going from “Plan my 3 days in Berlin” to a fully sourced itinerary in real time. Swap “trip” for vendor, competitor, or market, and it’s the same pipeline.
- Lee closed it out with where we go next, and it was the part that stuck with me most.
Where we’re going
The big idea from the day: search is no longer just how agents know, it’s how they learn. Agents are moving into a post-training world, where the searches they run today become the data they train on tomorrow. NVIDIA is already doing this. They used Tavily to run about 80,000 live web research runs, filtered those into roughly 67,000 quality trajectories, and fine-tuned Nemotron 3 Super to #1 on DeepResearch Bench.
That’s a long way from “my knowledge cutoff is 2021.”
Standing in that room and seeing everything we’d worked on all year show up as real people, real conversations, and real builders was one of those “wow, we actually did this” moments.
We’re all learning and growing together, and I’m so excited for what’s to come. Hats off to the team, our speakers, and everyone who showed up. What a week!
Next stop: World of Tavily NYC, November 12. See you there.
